I am also thinking about buying a 7.62 BR and building a shooter but the grade description scares me. The ones guys are posting pics of are very nice but my luck I'll get one that matches grade with a worn out barrel and all I'll have is a expensive receiver

Went to the North store Friday pm.
The 7.62 Navy barreled receivers that I saw were all junk.

I got two nice ones in the mail, a Mod0 and a Mod1. Bores are like new in both, headspace is fine using 7.62mm NATO gauges, and finish is very very good; looks like original on the Mod0 and an arsenal repark on the Mod1.

I'm seriously considering ordering a few more Mod0s, just to build up and use some of the parts in my stash, and because an original barreled receiver appeals to me much more than the reparked CMP B/Rs do, with reparked barrels.

Can complete the rifle with regular Garand parts

PS, For a shooter I would get the MOD1 non sleeved BR

I never thought the CMP would ever get rifles from the Navy so I was always on the hunt for a 7.62 M1 in good shape they never cropped up without a huge price tag and a whopper of a story. So I gave up looking, then about 3 years ago Dale Rader has a few Navy barrels up for sale all new tubes and they sell fast, I snatch one for the princely sum of $200. Now I needed too find a rifle is good shape too swap out the barrel with I was holding out for a late SA, after 8-10mos I find the rifle drag it home and do the deed.

I enjoy my rifle at the range, its first shake down run I discover its a hammer with my std match type reloads 125's-168's, then me and the wife deside too relocate from Az to Or. At this point I have less than 100rds down the tube and have been too the range here in Or 3 times and have fired less than 20rds and we have been here just over a year. Shortly after moving here CMP offers the M1 .308 special with Criterion barrel and guys are picking them up and liking them, a few months later CMP offers the Navy rifles and there flying out the door like hot cakes, this whole time I was thinking I was ahead of everyone. Damn that CMP!!

No my bolt lugs are not lapped.

I'm not ordering 3 to try and get 1 good one,
What I read over there is some barrels are sewer pipes.

I'd love to build one but I'm with LP. Too much of a risk.
