Ok guys hit me with some knowledge. I have a 12-51 barrel that has a TE of 4. Do I have to start thinking about replacing it or do I have some time yet? The ME is 1.5

So I guess when the guage starts getting up by 7 or 8 it's time to think about changing it? I have seen people talk about Armory barrels new guaging high but I'm not exactly sure what is good and what is bad.

As Timberly suggested,You are just fine.7 is pretty high, but each barrel preforms differently.I had a TE6 with the same ME as a TE2 barrel and it would out shoot it.

You know the barrel gives me consistant 4" groups at a 100 yards so I think this is just a case of me trying to get an excuse to buy something. :)

Some of the field grades that CMP sells have a T/E of 4.
Some of the Winchester rack grades had a T/E of 5.
Is the accuracy of your rifle getting worse?

no consistant 4 inch groups at 100 yds.

Sounds good to me. If it's not broken, don't try to fix it.

Yeah I saw the 4 on the gauge and wasn't sure at what point you start thinking about it. You have all given me a better idea about it now so I'm definetly not worried about it.

Depending on a lot of factors a barrel can start out with a high throat number. Measure a new Weatherby Magnum or a Rem 700. You would think they're shot out.

People get way to hung up on muzzle and throat wear measurements. The proof is on paper, if it groups well and you are happy leave it alone

Especially the Weatherby's. They are famous for having insanely-long throats. Oddly enough, my tang safety M77 7x57 has a very long throat too.
