M14 posted this like it was HIS story (on the CMP) and had anything to do with this left hand lug gap...

The guy is certifiable. I have no idea what this has to do with his left lug BS. Nobody argued that not enough headspace was okay, did they?

HughUno argues constantly on the forum that short headspace is OK

Hmm, I thought he argued long headspace was okay.

Tim, what is your opinion of the actual event? Is it possible if the stars did align, that a small change in headspace could cause this?

Anything is possible but I'm not convinced by Gus's argument. Not enough is known about that rifle. To overly simplify, if a stock breaks and the rifle has a worn butt plate, do we then say worn butt plates cause stocks to break? I know Gus's argument is better than that but the same principle applies.

I've shot Garand's with sort headspace, HS much shorter than .002 and have not begun to draw the conclusions Gus has. I'm not discounting Gus but he should not discount what others on that board have said.

Too many unknowns...need more facts before we can finger the cause.
