I've got a Garand that's in nice shape with a new stock, but someone refinished the stock with a glossy finish, kind of like the hunting rifles used to have 20 or 30 years ago. I just don't think the glossy finish looks good on a Garand, so I've been thinking about stripping it and putting a more traditional finish on it.

I don't know exactly what finish is on it. I've heard the citrus stripper is pretty gentle and effective with most types of finishes.

Any advice on stripping and refinishing?

Orlando posted this a while ago. I've always clean my stocks this way.

That only works for dirty stocks with a oil finish. It its a varnish you need a stripper made for that
