I'm voting for lamp.Transferring heat from the weld can have consiquences,

Would I shoot it? Yep. From the photo's, the weld does not seem to be in an area that I would deem critical. Of course, pictures don't always tell the truth.

receiver or not, the '42 barrel in good condition is worth more than the current bid

I wouldn't have a problem shooting it,especially since it was just hole filling and not welding halves together.
