So while sitting here at work at 1am I was browsing the forums and thinking of Garands, which usually means less money. :) I had this idea that I need some answers too. I recently overpaid for a Reese Bm59 stock, not the same one that was on EBay, the seller had another one. I got it cheaper but still overpaid, it happens you learn, move on. So instead of wasting money on a bad BM59 clone I was thinking of doing the BM14 that you had posted.

Now on to the questions?

Would the Reese stock work for this build?

What would be the easiest and cheapest route to go? Would it be to buy a Rack, Field or Service Grade from the CMP and have you do the mod. If so which grade would be the best?

Would these parts be the ones I would need from Standard parts?
•Standard parts drop down BM59 gas cylinder $95
•Standard parts BM59 bipod $78
•Standard parts BM59 side sling stock ferule $25
•Ultimak scout rail $185
•BM59 tricompensator $110

What cost am I looking at to do this? If it is even possible.
The Deluxe Garand M14 Mag-fed Modification $800
Standard Parts listed above. $308
Ultimak Scout Rail $185
M1 Garand CMP Field/Service Grade $525/625

Grand total $1293/$1393

Can’t think of anything else at the moment. Feel free to update the numbers if I am missing anything.

I am looking forward to the responses.

Why would I want to do this, because I can 

Sounds about right, but you're missing a barrel and trigger group. Don't forget you can sell the M1 op rod and a few other parts that aren't needed.

Looks like when you do the Deluxe Garand M14 Mag-fed Modification Shuff takes parts from the Garand you send him and swap it out with his stash of goodies. We'll see what he has to say, at least thats how I am reading it at this time in the morning.

Shuffy kept my parts. I used a nutmeg laminate stock from Boyds. I got one in the scratch and dent sale for $49 shipped including handguards. You will need to order magazines. I understand that Checkmate is out of magazines.

Would the Reese stock work for this build? I think so, a photo would tell me for sure, don't want to comment and then find out you have some obscure stock I've never heard of. Most likely you just need a roll pin in you clip latch pin for the bolt stop to retain it.

What would be the easiest and cheapest route to go? Would it be to buy a Rack, Field or Service Grade from the CMP and have you do the mod. If so which grade would be the best? I would go rack grade if they have them but I don't think they do so you you'd be stuck with field grade.

You would also need the BM59 lower band and retaining clip if you want the full on Monty. You can use the standard lower band with the drop down gas cylinder and save money though in both parts and machining.

Standard Parts listed above. $308
Ultimak Scout Rail $185
M1 Garand CMP Field/Service Grade $525/625
You would have an oprod mod $45
Piston install $25
Barrel is a tanker barrel and the cost would depend on if you can find one at Standard parts or if I would have to make one for you.
If you want a bolt stop $75
Schuster gas lock screw $25
Shipping depending on where you live.

Grand total $1293/$1393

If I could be so bold, you are already going pretty far with this project, I'd go the 59 route!

Especially if the stock is a BM59 stock. I'd like to see which one he has.

Yeap. That's what I get for posting in the middle of the night.
Tim, is the BM59 bolt stop $75 or $175? It says $175 on the site.

I'll try and find some more pics.

What is a reasonable cost for BM-59 Mags? And a place to get some, I don't need 100 looking at between 5-10 mags.

Yah, heck with that stock, I wouldn't build on it. Of course, it's only your opinion that matters.

I rather do it right with the right stock. Maybe in ten years this stock will be worth what I paid for it.

Can do a kit including the BM59 folder. LESS....NO Receiver, NO Barrel, NO clip for lower band. OK to go on everything else. If you might be interest let me know and I'll figure a price quote.
