If given the choice, what would be your decision? Each barrel could be headspaced to a specific dimension.

NOS (Short Chambered) Springfield Armory 1965 .308/7.62 Barrel.

Modern equivalent Criterion .308/7.62 barrel or similar.

I would think the USGI barrel would hold a little more value, but it is also more expensive than the commercial barrel by $100.

I love me an SA '60s barrel. never shot or owned a new production barrel so I can't really compare, but I'd take a 60's SA over any other GI barrel

Investment or shooter?

I'm very much a hybrid type of guy. I have a rotation, I like to shoot...but talking only hundreds of rounds annually. At this time, I could never see myself shooting out any barrel I ever owned...too many financial and time constraints. :)

The purist in me has an affinity for USGI parts, and I know the 1960's 30-06 barrels are cut well and prove quite accurate.

I like USGI stuff all the way up to the point where I'm using the rifle for competition, then I'd buy a Criterion.

That is how I feel, though have not yet had a need for commercial replacement parts. After my dismal sitting rapid stage yesterday, I don't think a commercial .308 barrel will make a lick of difference. I was shooting a 1903a3 however, barely missed cleaning prone slow.
