Working on a trade for a new in wrap USGI Barrel. Its my choice between a 1949 barrel and a 1951. Is one year known to be any better or worse manufactured than the other or are they equal?
Thanks

I doubt there is much difference but I would go for the later production. If the seller has a MW/TE guage you could have him measure then choose the better one that way.

Weren't most of the recent new in wrap CMP barrels 1951? If so, I would go with the 1949. If not, I would ignore this post.

I have two of the 1951 barrels both of which are nice. Shuff has already installed one which shoots great. The other on is like a lady in waiting, but I think it's going on four digit build that's in the works.

I'd go with the '49 just because there seem to be so many '51s around.

I too would go with the 49 if given this choice.

I only know of one 49 barrel in my herd. It is the best shooting barrel I have GI or commercial.

Orlando, either barrel will give good-service but, I would take the one with the lesser TE as you'll get slightly longer life out of it.

Me too.............. :p
1949 would be my choice. Both my main shooters have 49 barrels and they are great. Thats not saying all 49's are but just having a 40's date is way cooler than a 50's.
