View Full Version : Cut a Win-13 for Mag Fed G?

I know this is kind of a bias section to post in, but I'm thinking of sending my other FG Winny in for a Mag Fed G conversion (his 62 digits off serial # brother already was converted to a standard Mini-G). I don't have any other Garands I could send in at the moment, and the CMP seems a little backed-up at this time.

Would you guys advise having a Winny receiver cut (it's a Win-13), or wait the 60-90 days for an SA to come in?
Thanks

Here's the brother.

Hi, I'm waiting now for a shooter from the CMP, what's the hurry? I've seen many guys take a $1000 firearm and turn it into a $100 firearm. Just my take..Regards, Mike

I agree, I'd go with the least collectible receiver I could find. A Greek Black over pitting beneath the woodline 5.4M or 5.8M SA would be my first choice.

There is another way to look at it, didn't WRA make M14's?

Yea, it's a tough call. I wanted one of each manufacture in the classic Garand configuration. I just sold my M1A Scout to take advantage of the market, but now I have those mags and ammo just sitting there.

I guess I'll wait. My FG SA order is on its way to the CMP.

I would lean toward don't do it myself. You could always sell or trade the Win toward a SA and have a few extra bucks. That is unless you are fond of the Win-13 and in that case definitely don't do it.

If it were a regular WRA it wouldn't be SO bad,but the Win-13 is somewhat rare,so my vote is also for no.

I think I'd call Dupage and see what they had around... might do a little trading somewhere... the WRA is worth more than SA, so I'm just saying this for monetary reasons, not collectibility.
