I know Brownells sells the oprod spring Tim uses on the G, but if I had a spare full-size oprod spring lying around, could I cut to length to work in a Mini G?

NO.

The oprod spring for the Mini-G is sold at Midway though, not Brownell's. If Brownell's is selling it now, news to me.
