Sorry to bother you... Stock fit question

So my new Boyd's stock came in from Dupage (perfectly wrapped and in beautiful condition with timely service). I am now in the process of fitting it up.

I've read the post from Orlando and others regarding tight fit and the use of grease and a mallet, I just wanted to show you guys some quick picks before I go John Henry on this mutha.

As I add pressure it appears as if the rear of the trigger guard actually flexes toward the trigger. Am I clear to hammer away or should I take a hair off the stock where it meets the receiver?

If that is where the end of the gaurd stops with hand pressure its to tight

Set action in stock and "install/lock" the trigger assembly closed. Or in your case if you cant get it closed hold the trigger gaurd "towards" being closed as hard as you can and looking from the side of the rifle holding up to the light there should be a very small amount of clearance approx 1 1/8 inch from where the back of the receiver sets up to the back of the receiver legs.
If your stock doesnt have this slight gap,wrap a piece of sandpaper around a block of wood and sand to proper clearance. Don’t need much, approx the thickness of a piece of papaer or so

After you have removed wood under the heel, try to close again, it should be closer. I like to have the end of the trigger gaurd stop with hand pressure just past the end on the trigger. Then close the rest of the way with the heel on your hand ,etc
I like a fairly tight fit to begin with becuase the wood does compress on these stocks fairly fast and lock up will get looser

If you are still to far away from closing you may need to either remove some wood under the trigger housing or could use a trigger guard with worn lugs which would let it close easier

It took about 30 seconds of sanding with 100 grit toward the rear of the receiver. I then turned the rifle over and rested it on my right thigh. With my right hand I pressed as hard as I could until the trigger guard seated with a satisfying "click".

Of course I still have to perform the tilt test and do any sanding or trimming as necessary, but I'm a pretty happy guy right now looking at the initial fit up. After adding the rest of the stock metal and a correct gas cylinder this baby should be ready for a park job and many more years of faithful service. Thanks a ton for all of your help.

I see a grooved hand guard clip!
The gas cylinder might just need a re-finish.

Yes, the same numpty that chromed the grooved handguard clip also ground the bayonet lug and sight ears off the gas cylinder. Gonna need a new one unfortunately.
