My Dupage garand ( http://forum.shuffsparkerizing.com/showthread.php?3672-DuPage-Garand ) has been reborn by the master. His CMP special and new Criterion 308 barrel! Still have work to do on the stock finish but I think it is beautiful now. Excellent work! Now I can say I'm an "official" member of the club! Now to scrape together the funds to have him build a Mini-G for me. :)

Oh, and the flaming grease this man uses!

When I shoot it, I'll let you know if it "flames!" ;) And the receiver was very nice, considering that it is older than me. (But not as old as dirt.)

Did you photoshop out the pink grease?

Did you photoshop out the pink grease?

Nope, it's amber in the tube and looked sorta purple to me, on the gun in the sun. It's XF-7 from Brownells, and since the instructions say not to apply it over any other lubricant, I thought this would be a good time to try it out. Time and shootin' will tell! Oh, and definitely not whatever Tim usually uses.

I don't think there is much difference in durability and the US has used both at various times. Properly done, and proper maintenance is the most important thing with either one. JMHO

When landing on Omaha beach, the US military saltwater test stated that the parkerizing treat with a chromatic acid post dip held up the best in the saltwater spray test. If not landing on Omaha beach, I think anyone is okay with either Zinc or Manganese.

Hi, so beside the obvious differences of different "ingredients" is the color the main difference? Do you have a favorite? Regards, Mike

It has been a few years since I had a chemical company come out and go through the differences in the two parks. The biggest difference I remember is that zinc was a good candidate for post dip chromatic acid. I have no favorite, I like zinc with red stocks and Manganese with any stock.

Excellent looking Rifle!
can't wait until I save enough to send Tim my Dec. 42 Winchester to turn into a .308.
