Has anyone had their barrel treated with Nitrate Salt bath to surface harden the exterior and interior of the Mini-G / Garand barrels?

I'm wondering if this would be useful and lower throat erosion?

i think you would have to shoot a hell of a lot to see the benefit for the cost. After all, this aint a match gun. JMO.

I was thinking that it would be more useful for preventing damage to the inside of the barrel. Throat errosion, ease of cleaning, corrosion prevention, etc...

I have an AR barrel and an M9 barrel that have been treated this way. The reason I asked is because I've run into two M1s that had corroded bores, and I can see running into surplus 30-06 that could be problematic. I would think it would be unusally to find corrosive 308, but I've no idea...

I would imagine that a new barrel is cheaper than the process but I could be wrong.

Yes, but how much is 1 barrel? If one barrel is $200 then it is more than a barrel.

Correct, you need to do 4 barrels for it to be worth while.
