I just wanted to mention for those of you who have home alarms which notify a central station for notification to law enforcement of something to consider. The alarm when tripped sets off a dialer which calls the central station who then calls local police and who ever is listed on the protocol. The dialer uses phone lines be they hard wired or VOIP. Should the burglar be smart enough to cut your phone line the dialer will be useless. While you may have a home siren both inside and outside of your house your alarm system won't be able to call out. There is now another option which uses cell phone service when you loose your home phone service either by the wire being cut or phone company problems. The cell phone senses when dial tone is lost and notifies the central station of loss of dial tone or the fact that security has been breached. The cost for cell phone back up is 9 dollars a month in addition to your regular alarm service. I was able to reduce the cost of our home owners insurance by an additional 60 dollars per year by adding the cell phone which makes the cost of adding cell service only 48 dollars.
