I received a case of 5000 .22LRs today and was happy to get them. I then realized I paid .08 cents each for them, I then realized I was happy to pay it! It's hard to imagine being happy to pay that for .22LR when just last year I was getting them for 4 or 5 cents a piece. Having just received a Sparrow can which I applied for the tax stamp in May, 2012 I'm going to be needing a large supply of .22LR. I have a Ruger pistol and a Take Down Rifle which will both work with the Sparrow. It will also fit an FN 5.X28 pistol and a 5.7X28 AR15 which i have only limited ammo. So the .22LR will get a real work out.

Yeah unfortunately as long as the market will bear it, the ammo prices will be inflated.

It's capitalism my friend... embrace it.

Fortunately for me, up here in the hinterlands I can find shelves full of .22 short and long rifle any time I want them (at inflated prices of course).

Mom and Pop gas stations/bait shops are the best. ;)

The Federal Bulk from Wally World went up ~$5 a box after the last run on ammo. The price was $13/box and now it's $18/box.

I fully expect that the price will settle at the $23 mark.

Prices of copper, lead, and brass are crazily high today - it isn't just the 'shortage' that's causing an issue.
