I'm getting there. Tony G found me a beautiful 03-A3 (muzzle 0, throat 1) that was drilled and tapped for a Redfield Jr. and had a beautifully done bent bolt, but the handle was highly polished. Tim media blasted the bolt and then blackened-not parked-it. Next the scope was a freebie from Dogboysdad (Eric). Tim machined the WWII style step and the bevel in the Redfield Post-War scope base and parked it. The "C" stock came from the Louisville roadtrip. The upper handguard is raw wood. I'm not so sure it's walnut so I ordered a new one from the Collectors Source, but it's not here yet. I should have sanded it-maybe it is walnut? Anyway, here is where I'm at so far.

The Allen head screws are in the base temporarily until I get the shimming right-then they'll be replaced with Fillister's. The flash brings out the "Patina" but in regular light the receiver is a nice green, and the scope base and rings are darker. Everything is Remington, with the exception-I think-of the striker.

Stu

That is real purty. I am thinking about doing this to my sporterized 03A3. just need a decent stock. I have two upper hand guards you could check out. I do have one question though. Is that scope mounted correctly?

Yup. the scope is mounted correctly. Eye relief is perfect. I tried to imitate the Lyman Alaskan. Here's a pic of the Alaskan.

OK I guess that all those years of shooting deer rifles it just looks wrong to me. On the interwebs I have seen them both ways.

I think the handguard is walnut Stuart.

The Alaskan is a 7/8 scope. If you look you'll see how close the bell and the lock come to the scope base. That is the reason for the mill cuts that Tim did on mine. I don't have a clearance problem right now but if I went to an Alaskan or a K2.5 I would have. The 03-A4 uses low scope rings so unless you have an original WWII base, or a friend that knows how to mill, you're locked into using medium scope rings.
