Just thought I would introduce my avatar. Doug (Dougie-Doug around the house) he is a rescue Chesapeake Bay Retriever, got him at 4-5 years old. This guy has more heart than most of the men I have hunted with as you can tell by the picture. He was watching a flight of Mallards ‘n Blacks working the decoys. He’s my bud!!! Longest retrieve was a Black cripple around 600 yards, in December St Lawrence river water. Longest day so far has been 5 hunters, one Dougie and 5 limits of 6 birds in 20 degree weather and 30 degree water. Best retrieve was hung in a tree about 25-30 ft up, he pushed and shook that sapling till the bird worked loose and caught him on the way to the ground. If I’d had a camera I would make a mint on that one, truly awe-inspiring. Getting a little long in the tooth but my money is on him making at least two more seasons. He can still double the distance to any other dog on a 45yd retrieve and will hunt with ice forming on his sack. Even smokes trained field dogs on pheasants, working behind them getting every bird they plow over.
Anyway now you know, FWIW, who posed for my avatar pic.
