Do we have any FAL experts on this forum? I picked up an Argie FAL from a member and want to know if it would be improper, in the event of a failure to extract/eject to put the butt of the rifle on the ground and step briskly on the bolt handle knob. Not that there is anything wrong with the rifle, nor am I having any of the aforesaid issues, it's just that the rifle so damn nice I'd like to know the correct way to treat it in the wild event something like this happened. The FAL that I received from Stu is gorgeous. It's an unissued Argie kit on a Coonan receiver. All numbers match, including the receiver. The fit and finish are 99%. Whoever parked the receiver did a hell of a job. Not only did he give me one hell of a rifle, it also came with all the tools to assemble/disassemble it, two magazines, and a NIW bi-pod. My only regret is that I could not pick it up Friday so that I could have run a few magazines through it at the cabin. Thanks Bro! Your safe queen has a good home.

i treat the rare failure to extract on the FAL the same way i did on my 249 / 240.

place the charging handle against a solid object like an 8x8 post commonly found at the racge and rotate your hips forging the action to open up... works everytime

What they both said. For more info, check out The FALFiles.com. Lot's of great info.

I also have an Argie kit, but have a new Imbel receiver. Haven't started it yet.

Enjoy your FAL.

I have a Canadian kid in the basement with a DSA receiver, I haven't built yet because the barrel doesn't even come close to time and I have to machine just a hair off the breach face Before assembly

The Canadian KIT will be from an inch pattern gun. They used breaching washers to time the barrel.
Is your DSA receiver an inch pattern or metric?
The washers were numbered and Numerich and other parts houses used to carry them. Or you can hit the hardware stores and roll your own.
You may also need several different locking shoulders to get the headspace correct.

As Schriv stated, you use different sized breeching washers to time an inch barrel, regardless of whether your receiver is inch or metric. Measure the breech washer that should have come with your kit and then estimate in "hours" how far off your barrel timing is off from having your barrel line up at the 10:30 to 11:00 position, looking at it from the front. Each "hour" either short or long is worth .0052" Add or subtract to get the size you need.

Where I will differ is on the locking shoulder. With a go gage and a selection of cheap "pin" gages (every other .001"), from .254 to .268, you can find your needed locking shoulder size within .002".

Am I the only one that thinks it's funny that Dogboy wanted to buy a kid?

And Buckley, good luck in getting the barrel timed.

A Canadian Kid at that.
I guess he wants to be sure the kid will be polite.:)
