I'm new here and was thinking about getting a park job on the M1 I just bought . I have had a couple of different people tell me not to do it. Will getting a re-park really effect the value that much ?

Its a 5.6 H&R except for the wood which is cmp it appears to be H&R complete

If it is completely correct and looks good, park would hurt value, maybe.

Welcome to the forums.
If you could post some pics so we can get a better ideal of what it looks like that would help.

IMO a rifle that has good original finish will be worth more than a repark to someone "that knows Garands" That being said its your rifle do as you please!!

hard to tell from your pics, but does not appear we are dealing with anything of collectible condition, quality, or rarity. repark it. It will likely increase the street value

Street value yes but subtract the cost of parkerizing and have you gained anything?
Again, its your rifle if you want it reparked do it

If it is a "Service Grade Special"
From CMP:
M1 Garand, Service Grade HRA (Harrington & Richardson) Special.
Allow 60-120 days for delivery.
HRA collector grade metal in excellent almost new condition. Walnut stocks and handguards and associated hardware are new manufacture. NOT original HRA manufacture.
This means it's all correct metal and new stock. If that's the case don't repark it, If its just a "Service Grade"
Service Grade Rifles show less wear and better appearance than Field or Rack Grades. Good to very good condition. Rifle wear will be exhibited by worn and mixed colors of the parkerized finish. There may be some minor pitting on the metal parts. Wood will be either Walnut, Birch, Beech or other variety and will be basically sound but may have minor hairline cracks, dings, scratches and gouges. Wood may not match in color or type of wood. Wood may be of new production on Service Grade Garands. Bores will be generally good with only minor imperfections. The barrel crown may be nicked, but the muzzle will gauge "3 or less" and the throat erosion will gauge less than 5.
Then it's a mix master repark it if you like.

From what I can tell its service grade special all the metal matches from what I can see and research on the internet. All the drawing numbers are correct there are no markings on the rear sight but was told that was normal for the production year. As I said I'm a newbie and appreciate any info

If that's the case I'd leave it as it, it looks good from the photos.

For me personally, I would leave it as is in regards to reparking it. If you ever sell it let the next person worry about it. Looks like you got a good one.
I just read the comments above. If you want find yourself a HRA Stock and then it looks like you would have a "correct" rifle.
If you are interested in one of Shuff's masterpieces, just save your money, you will be getting another Garand in the future.

I doubt yours is a Service Grade Special,if it was it would not need reparked
The Service Grade Specials is just a Grade thta CMP came out with receintly, metal is like new no wear, all correct parts
Your rifle if it is all correct, IMO I would not repark it
One more thing, just because marked parts are all HRA does not make a rifle correct. The other unmarked parts may or may not be HRA

I bought an M1 on Gunbroker years ago and it came in a black laminated stock which does look pretty cool. I put a Turner black leather sling and a BM59 bipod on it to complete the look of my WWII Black Rifle. Now I want to go back to the original look so I'm going to sell the stock, sling and bipod and have the gun reparkeized and put a nice black walnut stock on it. I'm obviously not a collector, just a shooter and the M1 is a fine rifle to shoot.

For sure. A $100 +/- park job usually bumped the sale price for me around $300+
