I bought this gun years ago and just put it away. Just stripped it down and the bottom of the slide has been tapped. One hole has a small allen screw in it and the top has been smoothed over. The other hole is threaded but open. I'll try to post pic with this query. Can't figure out how to post pic. Working on a fairly new iMac.
My question is should they be there. If not I guess I need a new slide? Thanks

I can't figure posting a picture out. It jumps all over the place and I have no idea why. Looks like i did even if I didn't know it

Never, not on one single carbine (even the full auto M2), have I seen those holes.

I believe this Carbine was used as a "stage / movie Gun". I believe the screws were used to lock out the slide from normal operation. Are there markings or threads) at the end of the muzzle?

Those holes are for a scope mount built by the same people that built the Obummercare web site.

The Carbine seems to be made with some "slop" in the tolerances, as all of mine rattle either from the slide, trigger housing or both. My guess is that the slide jumps the oprod track in the receiver or on the barrel due to wear or peening on the track on the side of the barrel. Perhaps the slide was catching the take down notch in the barrel track. Someone might have installed those set screws to take up the slack; just enough to keep the slide aligned in the rails North - South yet permitting free movement during normal cycling while firing. Simply loosen the set screws and you can remove the slide for cleaning.
