Folks, if you have a gun friendly congressman, please have them support Bill H.R.2247. I have wrote my congressman, he responded, and he is now going to co sponsor the Bill. Please, it really does not take much time, just write a polite letter and keep it pithy.
Shown Here:
Introduced in House (06/04/2013)
Collectible Firearms Protection Act - Amends the Arms Export Control Act to allow the importation of certain firearms listed as curios or relics into the United States by a licensed importer without the requirement of an authorization from or payment to the Department of State or the Department of Defense (DOD) upon certification to the Attorney General that such firearms are lawfully possessed under the laws of the exporting country.

Here is the letter I received from my Congressman.
Dear Mr. Shufflin, Thank you for contacting me about the re-importation of M1 Garand and M1 carbine rifles to the United States. I appreciate hearing from you.
As you are aware, in 2009, South Korea announced their intention to sell these semi-automatic rifles to the U.S. collector market. However, the U.S. Department of State has blocked their re-importation over concerns that the guns could fall into the wrong hands.
You may be pleased to know I strongly disapprove of the Administration's attempts to block U.S citizen's access to these perfectly legal and regulated firearms and am a cosponsor of H.R. 2247, the Collectible Firearms Protection Act, which would allow certain firearms listed as curios or relics to be imported into the United States by a licensed importer without obtaining authorization from the Department of State or the Department of Defense. H.R. 2247 is currently before the House Committees on Foreign Affairs and Ways and Means for review.
Sincerely,
Tim Walberg

Unfortunately, I have Democrat stooge Rick Nolan as rep and academia elitist Franken for sen. After Oberstar was finally defeated, (after 36 years) they brought Nolan out of retirement. Nolan rarely gets back and his position is well documented. I refuse to talk with Franken at all, I can't handle that attitude he gets when you push him on positions. I've always felt lucky he hasn't emailed back the emails with grammar & punctuation corrections. If you've ever dealt with an intellectual elitist, you know how they get.

I wouldn't even bother to email a democrat, what they do is say that you emailed them in support of THEIR position. I know this because I've tried it and that's what they have done. They reply to me and tell me "thanks for your support".

You got that right. The representative in my area (he definitely does not represent me) campaigned on being a far left liberal. You can't reason with an idiot like him

My Congressman is a Democrat, but he knows that he is a pro-gun district and has so far supported gun owners. I have fired off an email to him.

Mr. Nolan gets back to me and what does he have to say. I'll get back to you. Don't you wish you were a pregnant, undocumented, minority women, wanting an abortion and a few Armed Republicans were blocking you. These Dems would be drooling all over you.
Dear Friend,

My rep answers and as the norm, totally doesn't address the question asked specifically.
Dear Travis,
Thank you for contacting my office and sharing your concerns about the need for a comprehensive approach to reduce and prevent gun violence while continuing to protect our Second Amendment rights.
We can no longer ignore the need to implement policies that protect our children and communities confronting the reality of daily gun violence and threat of senseless mass shootings. To that point, I believe the primary focus must lie in better and more holistic mental health care. The perpetrators of violent acts, such as those that recently occurred in Newtown and Minneapolis, demonstrated serious mental health problems and we need to address this first and foremost.
It's a fact that tens of millions of Americans experience mental health issues of one kind or another, many that often go untreated and undiagnosed. While it is rare for mental illness to drive people to acts of extreme violence, other consequences such as alcoholism, abuse, depression and joblessness do render many people frustrated, hopeless and unable to live life to the fullest when absent treatment. We absolutely need to expand our health care system to provide better mental health services to benefit not only those who suffer from these conditions, but also families, friends, colleagues and society as a whole.
I know that responsible gun-ownership is an integral part of our heritage in Minnesota – I am a lifelong sportsman and gun owner, and have hunted in northern and central Minnesota my entire life. The annual firearms duck and deer openers are a family tradition where we enjoy exercising our Second Amendment rights with friends each fall. While I sincerely wish that all Americans held as healthy an attitude and respect for firearms as the majority of Minnesotans do, there is a criminal element in this country that has exploited various loopholes in existing law and legally gained easy access to an arsenal of weapons with the intention of bringing harm to others.
More so, it has become too common for these weapons to fall into the hands of the mentally disturbed and those in personal crisis. Therefore, as I work to commit more resources to help people with mental health issues, I also intend to push for more thorough background checks on gun sales, restrictions on high-capacity magazines and a limitation on assault weapons. I will insist this legislation protects responsible hunters and gun owners by exempting specifically-named weapons used for hunting and sporting purposes and grandfathering weapons legally possessed on the date of enactment.
Finally, as lawmakers consider options that would make it more difficult for troubled individuals to obtain access to an arsenal of guns and ammunition that were originally designed for use on the battlefield, it is important to note the U.S. Supreme Court has strongly affirmed the right of citizens to own guns for hunting and self-protection – just as the Court has similarly determined that the Second Amendment is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for any purpose whatsoever.
Thank you again for contacting me on this important issue. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any additional concerns or comments on this or any issue of importance to you.
I encourage you to follow me on Facebook and Twitter and visit my website at nolan.house.gov to receive daily updates.

Richard M. Nolan

Same old crap, he says you contacted it about the need for a comprehensive approach to reduce gun violence while protecting the 2nd Amendment. We call that a lie because that is not at all what you contacted it about.
I truly believe these savages are using these contacts as PROOF that we WANT gun control by lying about what we contact them about.
