I think it's great! The free economy system at work! Their prices are good and their shipping is very reasonable! So what if they take the bread off the table of privately owned businesses. If the custom shop can fund at least one more panty raid by the gca then it will all be worth it.

I can't help but be very skeptical. A company, especially a service like this is one that builds overtime...through results and proven performance.

Who are the new rifle building experts? Think the CMP is going to step in it here. I'll go with known trusted M1 guys until I see some actual results. The CMP has never done a thing to the Dupage stocks to get them to run...

Tim, other than the obvious-that this whole business will stress out some of my good friends that rely on milsurp work to feed their families-I'm really not a fan of my tax dollars funding a business operation that will compete with independents.

$75 to replace op rod piston, tab , put bends to spec and repark, how can they do it for that???????????

W-T-F. They can't just skim the wealth off of rifle sales?

I have to agree with RKT on this, a lot remains to be seen. Very little in known about who is working on these rifles. My prediction is this, serious competitors will continue to do what they have been doing (i.e. - working on their own stuff or stick with who they have now). Most of the casual shooters wont even know the difference, they'll just know they have a "CMP built NM Garand". Then there are the collectors who will buy it just because the CMP sold it and never fire a shot anyway.

I think the timing of this is perfect for the CMP though. How many Garand builders are left now? How many are going to be around in 5 years?

Who knows. And this is not an attack you your post but in my opinion a "Garand builder" is not the same as a "Garand Gunsmith". Time will tell as you say, but I'm thinking the CMP shop is somewhat a production line operation. The product will exhibit consistency and sameness much like McDonald's. Yeah, you can be sure of what your getting, but at the end of the day you feel a bit lacking on personal satisfaction. I'll go for individuality and innovation if I want it, and want to pay for it. For production line product the CMP will have it's place in the market I'm sure as they have done well with product branding and have a loyal, almost fanatical following, which thinking about it so does Obama. (sorry, just had to have THAT in there)

RT40 has a different FREE MARKET definition than I do. Seems like the same griping Larry has been making about "prices" being too high...without understanding what it takes to maintain that business.

I, will pay for quality...start to finish expertise with proven results. My analogy is this, the "Walmart custom shop just moved in to town.".

This is more competition for the handful of private M1 Garand oriented gunsmiths and armorers out there! Awesome! This is the free enterprise system at work. The more competition, the more choices, the better. :GS:

Plus it will keep armorers and gunsmiths already employed at CMP employed in this still smoldering recession after the current rifles are sold out. I am all for keeping people employed if at all possible, as good old fashioned hard work is one of the most important things there is.

Dear members of the Congress shumer, gillebrand, feinstein, pelosi and all other patriotic public servants. I find it disgraceful that the Federal Government actually has a program that PUTS killer battle rifles into the hands OF THE PUBLIC!!! Not only does this govt. sponsored company called the CMP put KILLER BATTLE RIFLES in the hands of the citizens, it also provides AMMUNITION AND FIREARMS TRAINING!!!!! As if that isn't enough, they now provide service to keep your firearms in tip-top KILLING CONDITION!!!!When is it going to STOP?? How many more children must DIE??? How many more Navy Yard shootings must there be??? How many more shopping malls in Kenya must be savaged before the people of America WAKE UP??? YOU do not need a Garand to KILL A DEER!!!!

As funny as all of this sounds, how can you expect the POTUS to preserve the history and the culture of the United States when he himself is not a part of that history or culture? If anything, he is ashamed to be an American and he makes no effort to hide his feelings.

send that to me in an email [email protected] ([email protected]) and I will forward to the guys doing the work. At this time we do not have any in-house parkerizing. we contract it out.

So when you get a rifle parked by the CMP it is not parkerized by the CMP. FYI, when you send a rifle to me, I actually parkerize it.

Just delayed because of the govt. shutdown. As soon as things return to normal the parkerizing operation will start.

I'm sure learning that "The CMP" didn't actually repark their parts a few hearts were just totally crushed.

I was told someone locally did the parking on the receivers so it's probably the same outfit doing the parts.

Probably no way to find out who they are using as a vendor, but always wondered if the Anniston facility takes sub-contract work? They most surely would be able to take on large quantities of parts/components for refinishing. Remember during the first round of base closures and cutbacks some facilities were out beating the bushes for work to keep their people working. Place I worked at had engineers visiting from Las Alamos sounding us out on different flashlights for acft inspection. Think they were one of the first to see the benefit of lcd's. I'd post the question to Orest.....but think I've irritated him enough. The other thing is I feel bad for Tim...last thing in the world I intended was for him to become the second coming of Christ to the CMP crowd!!!!
