I *think* I know the answer to this one... I have a lot of spare Garand parts and I decided they should become a 308 mini-g. I was looking for a deal on a receiver though, and wound up getting a 6 digit SN SA, nice shape but no finish left, inexpensively from the CMP forums. Good thing it's called 'Shuffs Parkerizing'. But while searching I found a HRA 5.5mil receiver that looks like it's mint, no wear on it that I can see at all, original finish. Looks like it could have been taken off an unissued rifle. I just had to have it as well. I'm debating making the Mini-G mag fed, in which case one of these receivers will be sacrificed for the greater good. Is it butchery to cut a 6 digit SA that probably saw combat, or a pristine post war HRA?

I lean toward using the HRA just because I would prefer to use the less warn receiver for my project, but cutting the more worn, more common receiver, that's already been reparked makes sense to me too.

Thoughts?

Personaly I would save the HRA for a build. 6 diget Garand receivers really dont hold a great collector value especially since its bare of finish. IMO the HRA original finish is worth more
