Was looking at a Dec 1944 Garand receiver today and noticed a few strange stampings. Maybe they arent that unusual but I havent ever noticed them before. I suppose its just another unknown.
Anyone ever seen them before?

I sure have seen them, and many many more. I have no idea what they are or what they mean.

The top one looks like either Arby's roast beef or a phallic symbol. The bottom one is definitely an Inca fertility doll.

I've seen some stampings and have no idea what they mean either.
I think they may mean nothing. My theory is that some Springfield Amory workers are laughing right now.
They put those stamping on the receivers to mess with our minds. The workers were getting bored working on the assembly line and soon got
a hold of some "test" punch stamps. They probably said, "Hey, let's stamp some of these symbols on various receiver." "Then in 50 or 60 years from
now, collectors will be analyzing what they mean." "And little do they know, they mean nothing at all." Those S/A workers are still laughing.
In fact, this is something I would do too.

I had a illustration book at the house of all the different proof marks from all of my weapons..I will need to look for it..might be surprised at where this piece has been, I wonder about Italy, since they had the mfr rights for years?
