Not understanding all of the forum..

It seems that I am logged in okay..I can read all the posts..BUT, I don't always have the THANKS symbol come up at the bottom..When I like a post or am amused, I like to say thanks, this also applys when it has some good to know info..Why does the thanks key come and go?? OG.
