Just waiting for my Mini-G to make its way from Michigan and started thinking about hunting loads.

In my M14NM I've been using Winchester Ballistic Silvertips in 150gr on WI whitetails with good results. I planned on using the same in 30.06 in my Mini. I could only find 168gr so I bought that. Should be fine.

Just curious, what are those of you that use your Mini-G (or any Garand) for hunting using for a load?

Not a Garand, BUT,I used a Scoped 742 Remington for deer hunting..Using rem-oil and cleaning cured it of its stovepiping...I really thought the Silvertipped 150gr.bullets did a great job.....I had fired Remington ammo before of 150sp, 180 bronze, and 220 bronze in it before switching...reason being started hunting out of tree, not having to worry about bushes and brush..The big bullets were just over-kill and tore up a lot of meat..Even considered shooting them in the head for a kill to save the neck and shoulders...Btw a 150 lb whitetail on my farm is about the average..IMHO.

I've never needed anything other than a 150gr sierra sp over 50 grs of IMR 4064 out of my m1's for hunting. They take down up to large Mule deer without a problem(as long as I can hit it) ;) been good up to 200 yrds, but never had to shoot over that, and rarely over 100 yrds.

I just use ball, it seems to have killed all of them. Once in a while I use Nosler partitions, it kills them too.

WI DNR won't allow us to use Ball ammo on the Kings deer...

I didn't know anybody cared about the kings among us.

As aggressive as the DNR regulates, it would appear they sure as heck do. But thats for another thread...

No Ball ammo for hunting here either..Must be softpoint..To tear a bigger hole and to kill faster...then there is the part about bullets entering a home..Don't tell me they don't have that happen once in a while up there?? I bet most of the good kills here come from Combine and farm equipment..Deer don't mind them and the 30-30 fits right into the cab for handy use..To me it is not sporting, but it puts meat on the table...kind of like shooting from a road or a truck window, which is ILLEGAL here..
