Heres a question for you

Just got to thinking the other day about wear on Garand parts.
What makes a lower band wear out? There is no pressure put on it by anything but it does wear. Its not just the hole where the pin goes through but where the band sets on the barrel. I have measured the inside diameter of the loose ones and they are worn out of spec.
Any thoughts?

Removal and reinstallation?

I was thinking removal,and installation as well.Who knows how many times some have been reused and when they start out tight and are then hammered on and off enough over the rough barrel surface enough times,I would imagine it could sand away just enough to become loose?

Expansion and contraction cause by heat from the barrel while shooting.

Don't forget, the lower band does pull the barrel down to the stock via the stock ferule. At least most of the time it does.
