Guys I'm looking at a Garand on gunbroaker. It's 308 cal and was manufactured in 2003. Are there any quality issues on these rifles (made by Springfield) vs older rifles?

Thinking of buying it for a BM14 conversion. Thanks!

Cast not forged receiver. Pretty sure Tim will not work on them

What's the price, I'm sure it's not as cheap as a Service Grade from CMP for $625. All GI Parts. That would be a lot better rifle.

A 308 Barrel is like $180 if you need to change it for the conversion, but the BM14 conversion includes a barrel from what I see on the website, so no worries there.

I love this forum! Thanks for the heads up! I had no idea the "new" guns were cast.

Fellow wants around 8 bills for the gun. it's a relativity "new" gun (2003) so naturally it's clean.

I was hoping to have a mag conversion done, but keep the gun standard length. Already have a Mini G and a BM59 from Tony G so the idea of a full length mag fed gun appealed to me.

Ammo aside I have never purchased a rifle from the CMP. I also figured at best it would be a 4 month weight from them.

There is some requirement / paperwork from the CMP but defiantly the way to get to get a Garand. Right now the wait looks like 90 days. You may be able to find a similar rifle on gun broker but usually they are marked up a ton.

If your in Ohio or Alamaba assuming you meet the requirements, you can purchase one at one of their stores and walk out with it (if they have stock, always best to call first).

Best part if there is any problem with it they will make it right. Not always the case buying something on an auction site.

Maybe something in your price range ($765 at time of posting). If you don't want the scope mount you can prob sell it for $100 or so.

Yes. they are cast.

You'll want to double check with Tim to be sure he doesn't convert them. I just seem to recall that being that case. As usual, I may be mistaken

Keep in mind the reason I want another Garand is for a BM14 conversion. It was my hope to purchase a Garand already in 308, to save a little $$$ on the conversion. Yes I want a full size Garand that's mag fed with a bolt catch, that's about it. (so long as it can retain the stock gas system).

Have only bought 2 Garands in my life. One was a Excel/Korean buy back from a LGS about 20 years ago. Other was recently from Dupage. Dupage gun made a fine platform for a Mini-G conversion and is a hoot in 06.

Lots of happy campers @ CMP, but like I said I have fulfilled their paperwork requests, but only purchased ammo from them.
