I've got a Garand with the milled trigger guard. The guard seems to be recessed in the stock more deeply than other M1s I've seen. When viewed from the side, the about a thirde of the hole in the rear of the guard is covered by the stock. Is this a stock fitting issue? Is it a problem other than looks.

could we see a photo of the trigger group in the stock? The guard itself doesn't really go into the stock, it tucks into the back of the trigger housing.

Dross, that's deep. Does the rifle function right?

Wow, must be one of the older fat Boyds stocks?

It does, it just looks funny. Is there a way to fix it?

I don't know, the stock was on it when I bought it.

Sure it can be fixed with ALOT of sanding and trimming. The rest of the stockis likely fat and oversized also.
I would get a new commercial stock from Dupage Trading before messing with that one
Is it a USGI M1 or is it a SAI commerical copy. The SAI copy I have had an oversize boyds stock.

How would I tell?
What is roll stamped on USGI reciever heel, on the SAI copy looks more like a laser etched. Or if you take off stock off
on the underside ofthe reciever, is Lithgow,& ADI. The casting was made in Austrailia.
