I have always used a muzzle wear gauge. I just decided to try my pin gauges. On a rifle with a 1.5 reading on a wear gauge, a .300 pin just makes it in snugly all the way while a .301 goes in about 1/16" before stopping dead in it's tracks. What is the more accurate way to go? Of course I'm going to dig out my mic and check the gauge.

That's the diff between a 1 and a 1.5 or a .5 on the gauge.

OK, I just mic'd the muzzle gauge and the pin gauges and they're both spot on, so if I took a little over 1/16" off my barrel the nuzzle wear would go down to almost none? Makes you re-think muzzle wear.

Low Muzzle wear measurememnts is mostly a selling tool, proof of accuracy is in the shooting

That's probably the depth of the crowning.

How many other folks here, don't like back boring a rifle? I did have mine done this summer, it seems to have helped..it is cut about 1/4 inch back. The smithy said it most likely would help it shoot better.?
