View Full Version : Rear hand guard question
I picked up this garand rear hand guard at Sarco over the weekend.
When I got home, I realized that it is 3/8" shorter than a regular hand guard.
Any ideas as to what type of garand it would go on ? A 308 ?
What get me mad is that it perfectly matches the stock I'm working on right now.

Maybe a Italian 308 Tipo 2 (type 2) Conversion, where they chopped about a 1/2" off the barrel shoulder and re-reamed the chamber for 308. Oprod was shortened as well, as other parts.

if you're building a bm59E you're in good shape.

That makes sense about the Italian 308. On the shelves behind the garand parts were shortened barrels and op rods which were tagged 308.
I'm trying to match up hand guards on a "NFR" stock

Does this one work for you?

I don't need it. It's off a rifle with a rail. It's a bit darker than it looks in the pic.

If it's darker than it looks in the picture, I can't use it. Most of my hand guards are too dark.
I need a light-colored hand guard. The one in the picture is light and darken just enough when I
wiped it down with BLO
Thanks for the offer !!!!

It was unfinished walnut finished with 3 coats BLO, then 2 Coats PTO, them Toms 1/3 wax. It is not as dark as what you typically see, I'll say that. But It does have some pronounced grain.
Call or email Dupage Trading, you may be able to get an unfinished handguard set.

Jak, what was the price of the >308 barrels and shortened Operating rods? At Sarco? It would be very tempting if I lived close to them..OG.

I don't remember the price of the shortened barrels but 2 of them were Winchesters. i think the shortened op rods were $85.00.
One of them was an IHC.
