Just got this back from Shuff's this weekend. Fast work, it took less than 2 weeks from the time I sent this to him, until I was shooting it. Got it zeroed at 50 yards, and moved to the 100 yard line, and it went to sh!t. The rifle would not hold a zero. I was warned about using repro scope rings, but didn't have the money to spend on usgi rings. I guess now I will have to come up with the money, or find a good machinest. It looks like the tabs on the top of the scope rings are to small, and letting the scope move when the screw is tight. Has anyone else found this. I think it you build up the tabs, it should work better. Mr. Shufflin did a great job on mounting the barrel block, the rifle looks great, now I guess I have to make the rifle shoot.

Mr. Shufflin always does good work, or at least that's been my experience. I always refer to him as Mr. because I want to show respect for age.

PS: Enjoy the new M1D

Nice looking rifle

The Gibbs repro rings are $70. I don't have any so I cannot recommend.

JJ, does it shoot like shit with open sights? I just want to rule out that it could be something I didn't do good enough for you.

I called Mr. Shufflin today about the scope problem. It wasn't his problem to fix, but he took the time out of his day to help me get my rifle in shooting condition. This is the first rifle that I sent to him, so I wasn't sure about how it would turn out. I know that he says on his web site that he is faster than anyone else, and I have heard from a few people that he does great work, but I don't trust anyone because they say to. After getting my rifle back in less than two weeks, ( the place here in Texas told me 6-8 weeks ) and the great customer service on problems totally unrelated to the work he did, I think I have found me a new Garandsmith. Now it is time to save up for a mini-g in 308 with one of those pistol grip stocks.

by the way, do we get discounts for talking good about the work he does??

That looks great. I hope you get the mount squared away.

JJ, you might think about bedding the mount in JB weld. Obviously use release agent on the rifle. I've had the scope come loose in the rings a couple of times on my M1D. The recoil is too severe for that mounting system -in my opinion of course. Anyway, I would bed the mount and never remove it once you have it in place. Stu
