I picked up a pile of M14 stocks for next to nothing
They were absolutly filthy, couldnt even tell the condition. After getting them stripped/cleaned up they seem to be pretty nice. No cracks or repairs, hardly any dents just mostly handling marks.
A few are walnut but most are birch, some have some nice flaming
Heres one of the nicest stocks after cleaning with Purple Power

I wiped it with a wet cloth to get a idea of what it would look like after being oiled

Cant wait to get this one finished
