This was just a sample of the shooting I did today with my oldest M1,a 523,000 made SA that has a 9/47 "junk" barrel with a TE of 6+on it that I experimented with.I just threw a drill bit in the drill last year and drilled down until the rifling was near new,and then polished. I had it out today off of a sandbag and was just turning sandstone rocks to dust and decided to see where it was at on paper.
These were the last 5 rnds I shot at paper with, and the first wasn't on paper so I adjusted the sight. Not bad seeing as how I am a terrible shot and I could barely see it at 200 yrds. This will be a fine Deer rifle, and "rock breaker" with the barrel's new life :)

Hey Hump, whats with the bubba lable? That counterbore looks pretty good..I had my var barrel countered, to sharpened it up and it looks almost like yours. It was turned in a lathe and drilled...really looks better than i expected..As to your target,at 200 yards that looks good to me..Maybe the alibi was-- that lot of ammo is shooting different..I try not to shoot too many rocks but a scrap piece of steel plate is fun to rip up?I was dismayed lately at how the sights are getting a little blurry on my rifle too?

The Prince is tough on himself, he uses "bubba" as a disciplinary flogging tool to make himself feel lesser than. You don't need to do this Prince, we love you and what you do with your fine firearms :)

Okay, It means a little different here....BUBBA,,.Sometimes i use it myself...of course thru time, we have mellowed out with our descriptions...As far as it goes, I've never met any of you , but He adds good content here a lot.... Plus what you said about shooting deer.

Thanks fellas! The ammo was 150 grn Hornady FMJBT,but the IMR4064 powder charges vary from different load experiments all thrown together in the can. This can is what I bring out for rocks and junk

Ha, I just had the feeling there was a reason for that upper spread..So really you could have used the floor sweepings of hpx and done about as well....the steel plate i was shooting was 6 inches square, It folded nearly in half at 75 yards...My sweepings were mostly surplus..and pulled a magnet...So Similar results.

I'd say bubba didn't do a half bad job!

This what I would like to do. What was involved to polish the final bit?

I just used a soft polishing bit with my dremel to smooth face.
I did this to a model 30(?) Greek Mauser with a really bad muzzle, went quite a bit further down the barrel. The first shots were about a yard to the right, so, drilled a bit more got it on paper. Just adj windage after that. Surprised me that it worked.
