Here in the Great White North, Garand operating rods are as rare as can be. I have a line on a couple that are out of spec and am wondering what is involved in replacing the piston tips. Are they welded, silver soldered, chewing gum in place? Any special tips to know of? Thanks once again,ZB.

Originals were resistance welded, we now silver solder them. Use 51% or great solder %.

What is the best way to remove the old piston without messing up the tube? Thanks.ZB.

Heat till glowing red and put a 1/4" rod in it whacking it out while it's in a vise. Don't vise it so that you take the bend out.
