Is it normal for the gas cylinder to be tight/difficult to slide onto a new barrel? I have a new Criterion .308 barrel and the cylinder starts to bind before the lock threads are visible. Is there magic dust/oil/ something to get it where it has to go? I am tempted to give it the "whack" but though best to ask for expert advice here first. Thanks once again,ZB.

A properly fitting gas cylinder will need to be driven on with a hammer and wooden block

Yep, I can usually get it done with a rubber mallet.

John C. Garand obviously knew the average American was able to fix things with a hammer! This rifle was built to hit and be hit! Thanks again, a couple of light whacks and it is as good as gold.
