Leather Cheekpiece on M1D

Just purchased and M1d from CMP and also a leather cheekpiece on Ebay. Can someone tell me the location or orientation of the 2 brass screws that help secure it. Are they to be on the centerline of the bottom of the stock? I also seem to have a gap at the front of the cheekpiece when I lace it up.

If someone on here doesn't know you might want to try a search on the CMP forums under the Ask Each Other or How to section. I know there was a post several months ago with instruction on lacing up the Cheek Pad plus location and size of the screw holes. Hope this helps. Plus any pictures of a M1 are greatly appreciated.

I dont think they were always screwed on as I have seen many used M1D stocks that had no holes drilled in them. Heres a diagram showing how to lace and the area of screws
