I bought a Springfield Armory Garand receiver this past February. The poor receiver was totally devoid of finish and it had been cruelly sandblasted.

So I had the receiver re-parkerized and it looked much better. But you could tell that it had been sandblasted by a maniac and you could tell that the heel was pitted.

I sent the receiver to my buddy and he installed a barrel. He also rubbed the receiver down with oil and 0000 steel wool. It looks great now.

In a week or so, this rifle will be assembled into another working M1. I can hardly wait.

You could take it to an engraver and have the heel "restored".

Explain, Maybe, as in tracing out the old letters? the white lettering made it look better too?
