I was at the range yesterday shooting my CMP .308 garand. On the 2nd clip I fired the first shot of the clip (one trigger pull) and heard
TWO rounds go off. Is this what is meant by a slam fire? Could there be a problem with the trigger group or bolt? I was firing factory ammo at the time? Is this dangerous? i continued using the gun but only in single shot mode. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks,
Mark

Not a slam fire. Where you shooting from the bench? If you dont hold rifle tight to your shoulder and pull trigger completely to the rear the rifle can double. Just like bump firing. This seems to be a fairly common occurance to someone who isnt familiar shooting a large caliber semi auto rifle off the bench. It can also happen shooting positions but not nearly as common. JMO

^^what he said^^

also, (and not the cause of your double tap) you should only be using factory ammo designed specifically for use in the garand.

If this continues to happen, after reading and doing what Orlando said, you might want to consider having your trigger group looked at.

yes, I was shooting from the bench. I was using American Eagle .308 "for M1A" (velocity 2650 fps) and American Eagle (2820 fps). The former rounds would often not strip the next round correctly while the latter seemed to work ok. I figured 6% difference in muzzle velocity wouldn't make much of a difference, perhaps I was wrong?

Okay, i have an older 2 mil sa that has eaten a lot of federal 150 gr sp's that are older than some members here on the forum..NEVER had a TWO-tap, It could happen the next time, but i have switched over to the HPx from cmp...so i vote for the better grip..Stripping the rounds off could be the clip, older clips get a lot of use from me..they work better after you heat em a few times and it smooths out the finish on them..IMHO.
