I overnighted my paperwork for an IHC/LMR SG before the orders were closed. Early last week the CMP contacted me about switching to a FG. Having a hard time swallowing $925 + shipping for a sight-unseen FG I decided to go for the non-LMR SG (hoping to get an arsenal rebuild).

I requested USGI wood to help my chances of a rebuild but I fully expect to get a pumpkin wood version.

The serial number is 4516something something something. I really can't remember off the top of my head.

I'll post pictures tomorrow evening when I get back from work and have a chance to open the box.

Luck has nothing to do with this.

I was hoping for more...

It looks like a brand new rifle. Very little wear on the receiver, new park on gas cylinder, front sight, trigger group.

The only other IHC part is the op rod. Elevation and windage knobs are DRC/NHC. SA 1-55 barrel, CMP tag reads 1+ MW, 2+ TE. My muzzle gauge reads .5 as the worst.

Stock is CMP birch, not pumpkin but the lighter version. Hang tag is from 2012. The op rod spring has some flat spots. The whole rifle is dry as a bone (like the specials).

I wanted a nicer rifle than a FG and I got it. The lockup is tight and it looks new. The grass is always greener so I am wondering if I should have gone the FG route. I would not have picked this off the racks just to have an IHC if there were others to choose from.

So you've paid a grand for a nice garand.

It's a good investment. Throw some walnut on that and you'd prob get $1500 on Gunbroker.

I got a Service Grade mail order 2 weeks ago, I was not really thrilled either. Stock was sound no cracks, but a ton of dings (it's hanging in my basement now being refinished). No finish on gas lock or plug, no finish on oprod track, and you guys saw my trigger housing.....

Oprod jumped out of the track while cycling the action.

This was the measurments:
tab thickness : .0925
Tab Height: .314
Piston Diameter: .524
Tab Hang: .055

I emailed CMP about the oprod, they told me if it jumps while shooting they'd swap if for another SG oprod. Heck with that. It's going to CMW tomorrow for a new tab. Gas System is going to Tony G to be refinished, and once that's all back it'll be going to Tim for a repark and new piston. TE was 3+ and ME 1+. I don't have a gauge so I can't check that...

Seems like that $700 was alot... In the end I think I'll have in it what I spent building my HRA which is mostly NOS parts, new walnut, new Criterion Barrel.

Why don't you just email them back and tell them that the oprod is jumping out of the track then?

I love that rifle. And if you decide that you don't want it, I would be prepared to buy it from you fir $1100. And then we would arrange to have it legally exported here by way of a licensed exporter.

But were I you, I would keep the rifle. In ten years you will be happy that you did
