What kind of Knife is this?

My Brother found this in one of the flooded storages He was hired to clean.The tip started to rust from the wet Leather,but cleaned up OK,finish seems to be Parkerizing.Made by Camillus USA.Is it a civilian knife or is it Military?Sorry,I'm a knife dummy.

Thats a Pilots survival knife and yes it Military. Started making them round 57 with 6 inch blades and shortly after went to 5 inch blades. Look for a date they started dating them in the sixties and that is the 5 inch isnt it.

Yes,it is 5",but I can't find a date,only Camillus/New York/USA.Thanks for the help!

If there is no date on the butt than it is an early knife , the first few years were 6 than 5 with no date than 5 with a date , I think they started dating them in the late 60s.

Hold that thought Ryan, I just pulled out the book and have another question. If it has Camillus USA it may be a civilian knife. I am sorry I just went off the top of my head before looking it up. It should say Camillus over N.Y. on the blade not USA. sorrry bout that.

Upon further research I found that that style of marking was used after 1989....CILIVIAN MARKET JUNK!!!!!!!!!!

You made me dig mine out. My Uncle brought it back from VN. Have had it since I was a kid.

check for date on 6 sided part of handle.

Never saw any markings other than on the blade. Just double checked and nothing is on the pommel. It may have been in the family longer. I just remeber getting it with some uniforms, etc that my Uncle gave me. I'll see my Father tomorrow and will ask him.

cuppednlocked if no date on yours it was made around 62 to 67 if its a 5 inch blade that is. 6 inch would be earlier.

Thanks check! It's a 5" blade. My Uncle came back with some odd aviation things (flight helmet being the most interesting). Given the fact he was a Seebee officer I'm not sure where he acquired the aviation stuff.
