I got a phone call from a friend who has a cousin who wants to sell a Springfield Armory M1A or the civilian version of the M14. He's had it for several years and had it to the range twice which is why he wants to sell it, he doesn't us it. Asking price is 1K on a FTF deal. Anything I need to be aware of or look for?

What you should look for is to make room in your safe for it by selling me one of your IHC's...
For that price, you better jump on it. If it has USGI parts too, then you have done very well.
You are going to love it.

In NYC you can get a chinese for $200 but that is only for an hour. lol

Check to see if the barrel markings are USGI, as well as the bolt, trigger group, oprod etc. If its an earlier one it might still be USGI parts or at least some of it. Either way, $1k is a good price if its still in nice/new shape. See if you can score extra mags and if he still has it, get the original box and paperwork with it.

My friend has a Devine M1A with an ART scope but he won't let me have it. I would sell a kidney for it.

There appears to be a possibility that the "Devine" may resurface! I am trying to confirm this. If this happens I will be there.

...and you can get them for a lot less than $1,000.

Put me on the waiting list!

Other than the Devines being the earliest/first built ones, what is so special about them? I know they sell for a premium but for that kind of money I'd rather have one of the top M14 smiths build me one with a new modern day match grade barrel etc. Are they desirable just because they are early, like a gas trap garand is desirable?
