Springfield 389xxx, Nov 41 receiver, lockbar sight, milled trigger guard, SA 52 barrel, Dupage stock set and new repro stock metal. Originally bought at the north store as a CMP field grade. Sent to Shuff's for Mini-G conversion, trigger job, muzzle brake and repark. The finish is outstanding and the workmanship is excellent. I'm not much of a photographer, but my wife owns a nice camera.

Thanks, it came out really well. I'm shooting tomorrow so I'll get some target pictures up.

I'm curious to see how well the groups are with the trigger reworked. I was absolutely amazed when I pulled it. Seriously smooth with a definitive break. I told my dad and my brother to put their's in the mail as soon as they could. Has to be the best $50 you could spend on your garand.

I'm at my inlaws house for christmas too, so I'll head down to the barn and get some night shots. I'm thinking the flash will be impressive.

Yes Sir. It's rainy right now. Seems as though rain follows me around. I even made it rain in San Diego when I was there 2 weeks ago.

We're staying at my in-laws. They live in the family farmhouse. My parents live about 3 miles away, the wife and I started dating in high school. It's good to be home. Hopefully in a couple years I can make it permanent after that little obligation to the government.

Sweet rifle, Know you will like it? I'm gonna be burning powder this week too, one of my favorite past times during a holiday...we are in the rain right now too..today and this weekend. But my ammo is dry, have a good safe holiday.

Went out behind the barn and did a function check today. Absolutely awesome. I'll have to get used to not being able to see the target when I pull the trigger for the muzzle flash.

It was definitely loud, rattled a couple windows at the house and the echo cracked a couple miles away in the woods. The group was ok, but I wasn't shooting from a rest and the second clip was offhand, so I'm sure it will do better than the 3" at 60 yards today.

The trigger is so very nice. I have to send my other ones in now that I'm spoiled. We're headed to the conservation club to shoot at 100 on friday, I'll take some pictures of some proper groups.

Successful day at the range yesterday. Spent a lot of time with the boys shooting .22's, but put 6 enbloc's through the mini. The groups with greek surplus are 3 inches or so at 100 yds. The windage is dead on the center of the paper, but I was having a hard time consistently aiming vertically. It might be time for a check up with the eye doctor. The Smith front sight is fat with the tritium inside of it, so I'm sure it's affecting the group sizes.

But so much fun. It's quickly becoming my favorite. I'm looking forward to maybe a national match front sight and some hand loads to dial it in.

redheep,

These work nice.

I have them on all my Garands and both Mini-Gs, they work great with the shorter sight radius of the Mini-Gs.

For some reason, I've found that hotter loads do better in my personal G's.

My dad and I were thinking the same thing. I didn't have any hand loads with me, but I want to work some up with the chrono this spring.

Either way, I didn't get one to keyhole my shots on paper . . . :)

Tim et al,

Do you guys have a suggestion on where to start for a Mini-G load? Should I just start with what we load for a garand?

I like to clone M2 ball loads for my G. I hoard M2 for when the Dems succeed in destroying this great nation, and I want my POI to be the same on my stash ammo as my practice ammo.

But if your primary purpose is hunting I'm sure your needs will be different.

My primary purpose is center mass at 200 yards in the smallest group possible. I just bought a starter RCBS reloading kit and I'm going to load enough ammunition to make it worth my while. If for some reason the government comes to the state at which you describe, my marksmanship skills will mean much more than the difference between my hand loads and my greek surplus :)

No doubt sir. :)

I'm sure if someone spent the time and research they could work out a load that was optimized for the shorter barrel. With the perfect powder burn rate to utilize all the powder right before the round exits the barrel, giving you the fastest projectile possible and flattest trajectory, but that man is not me. :)

So I just keep it simple and copy milsurp rounds for the most part.

I do like 125gr Hornady SSTs in my 308 Mag Fed G. They allow me to eek out a bit more velocity. Atleast on paper. How much in real life I can't tell you yet, Santa didn't bring me the chronograph I asked for...

My Mini-G, in 30/06, likes heavy grain bullets with higher velocity. I don't know why this is but that's what mine likes.
