prepping bolt for pakerizing ..

I am getting pretty good at refinishing my stash of parts. One question, how much can I dig into a bolt with my sandblaster before it eats through the hardened surface? I have a bolt that has some electropencil engraving that would look better removed. Thanks in advance for any advice. ZB

Good question sir, I'm looking forward to the answer. I do some basement reparkerizing myself, but I have never done a bolt.

Simple answer, you can't "dig" out the engraving on a bolt with a sand blaster. The area around it will diminish at the same pace as the engraving. If you want engraving gone you would remove it with 1" wide belt sander.
