How much difference should be expected when re-crowning a Garand muzzle?
My IHC FG is MZ:3 Throat: 2 and I would like to get the muzzle closer to 2 if possible.

Depends on how far back the "3" is in the muzzle.

I have a 9-42 SA with its original barrel. I used machinist's gage pins to check the mw. Long story short, the last. 187'' was belled so a mw gage would have given a false reading. I counter bored the barrel back 3/16ths and the barrel now has a mw of '' 0''. Bottom line is that a simple recrowning of that barrel would have shown no improvement. Yours may have a similar condition. All you can do in your case is shoot it first, recrown it, shoot it again and see if there is any improvement.

What is your rifle printing now on the target?

It'll forever be a turd and you need to give it to me, along with that 6 digit receiver.

If your question is for me, it will hold the 10 ring on an SR target at 200 yards as long as I do my part.

I just received the rifle a little while ago. I have not had an opportunity to shoot it yet. I plan on shooting it this weekend at a local match.
I don't have a stripped receiver anymore... The guys at the CMP armorer trailer put my barrel on at the Eastern Games. They even swapped out a bad bullet guide. She is currently all dressed up and ready to play!

Here's a pic of the counter bore. And yes, it's CMP/JCG legal. It's considered a re-crown. Rifle went from an 8-9 ring gun to a 10-ring shooter.
