If you read the posts on the cmp forum it seems that half the M1's out there have some sort of functioning problem and according to the experts the problem can be traced back to a part that is worn .001" What kind of battle rifle is that?

The experts were the men who used them, I assure you .001 did not come into play, the so called experts, are just that "experts called by themselves".

An "Ex" is a has-been and a "Spurt" is a drip under pressure.

I think that the functioning problem quite often is the one holding the rifle.

Is that why limp-wristed liberals have a problem with firearms?

OG, why start now? Lol
I concur that one-thousandth of an inch means nothing, unless you're going to the moon or Mars. Five-thousandths, however, is enough room to drive a freight train through. I also agree that more often than not, the functioning problem is located between the ears.

In the question of which rifle you'd trust your life to.... In your eyes what is more reliable? The M16 platform or the Garand?

I would trust mine with my life, and my families lives, however,if I were in Antarctica I may choose an M1917? I sometimes think grabbing my M14 clone may make more sense though as far as ammo capacity, and availability???

Yikes, I have used all of them. There are several good ones in this bunch..First, Humping ammo is a pain for all of them..That was the Main reason the m-16--ar15 platform was hatched up..The US had already been to war with some very nice weapons..Many enemy weapons already had made their ammo smaller and rifles lighter..We had the little m1 carbine, the grease gun, plus the heavy thompson sub machinegun[ obsolete}....I trained with the m1 and m-14 rifles..I really like the firepower and the capacity of the m-14 rifle.Plus a 200 round can of ammo is not too bad of weight to lug..That same can holds over 420 rounds of ammo for the m-16 rifles...handling is totally different..If parts wear very much.005 was mentioned, critical parts,NONE of them will run.. Pistons and cylinders are in all three of them..One of them will choke out on its own gunpowder or break the bolt....Armalite. Or the chrome piston will eventually sieze....I favor the wood and steel varity for durability. The eight shot Eclip won the WW2 war, but not heavy enough for modern wars..The little carbine with its 30 shot was really too light and short range, but served us well too... The good combat rifles of today hold 20 or 30 rounds in a lot of choices..So ....
