View Full Version : Always shoot your AK first...

On my recent range trip I learned a very important lesson. Shoot your AK first, otherwise after shooting your M1 Carbine, Mag-Fed Mini-G, and Reclaimed SC 1903a3, you'll get used to actually being able to hit what your aiming at. So when you pick up your Saiga NY Legal AK, and can't even find where your rounds are impacting half the time. That without even adjusting the sights, one shot it would be way right, the next way left. You'll will feel like throwing the rifle into the pond otherwise! It was kinda cool to guess which side of the target the dirt cloud, from the berm, would come from before each shot though!

I didn't have unrealistic expectations. I was expecting 6" groups at 100 Yards. What I got was more like 12" if that!

I was shooting Wolf.. I know I wasn't using the greatest ammo, but isn't that half the allure of these things? You can shoot cheap steel cased, com bloc ammo in them?

Must have been assembled on a Tuesday after a long weekend and a case of Vodka.

The next step is to try a smaller front sight and some better ammo, if I don't sell it first!

Were you using the recommended 50 yard AK target?

Putting the jokes aside, how does it get to be that big a group? My ak was a factory 386 rifle and it is nothing to snear at, nor would I like to be on the business end...But I never did mike the look of a Maudi version, which looks like a blacksmith beat them out on a anvil.

OG. I wouldn't even call it a group. The front sight looks like a sausage , I think with a slimmer front sight that would help. I know the ammo is crap, but I didn't think it was that bad. If I have to buy winchester whitebox to shoot it decently that kinda defeats the purpose. Peep sights I'm sure would help. Sometimes though from what I hear on these guns they can be hit or miss. No pun intended.

okay, i use chinese ammo, not having any problem with it hulling them out...The sight post is pretty thin..Now we did have to shoot my sons rifle a good bit for it to smooth out, it was cobbled up by CAI.... worked the kinks out and remember some sight problems on the barrel...cannot recall the name of it right now..Wasp, maybe..?

Oh, BUT,,,, JON,..It shoots very well and a whole lot of bullets, before it tires out..Highly reliable, It has NEVER hung up or failed to fire....The vital aparts are all chromed and hardened....By the way Did you see the US army trying to destroy Iraq's rifles with the APC, ran over them twice, they still fired...Tougher than a sherman tank..Not as sure about the cobbled rifles from parts kits??
