Rear Sight Elevation Pinion Questions

I have a few pinions in my parts bins and noticed that a couple do not have a groove milled through the teeth. Is this groove necessary? Is one better than another? Just different drawing numbers? Manufacturing short cut? Thanks for any input. ZB.

If you're talking about the sight elevation grooves then it isn't necessary. I haven't found one kind of elevation knob better then another except I do like one with a nice sharp tooth.

Thanks. I am using whatever comes out of the bin and most are as new or in good shape.
