I know I've seen a few out there but now that I go search for one they've all disappeared.

I just checked Kreiger and their Garand barrel offering isn't stainless. Did you check with the other big manufacturers?

I'm in the phase of collecting parts for a Garand build. I have two pristine 1941 & 1944 receivers which I bought 10 years ago from CMP (Refinished, no pitting etc.. mint really). I've been focusing on buying NOS or newer parts if possible to match the receiver years. If I have too many problems I'll just get parts as new as possible. I'll get new stock hardware. Ultimately If have the rifle built. This said, I like SS barrels and had a M1A built in 2004 with a SS barrel and laminated stock. Currently I am hesitating between a standard size M1 or Mini-G at first. I think a SS barrel and laminate stock on a mini-G would look quite nice (My current 308 M1 Garand has a laminate stock).

It will be impossible to find many if any NOS 41 and 44 Garand parts Used 1941 Flush Nut sights alone will cost your $600-650 Why bother looking anyway if you are going to install a commercial barrel? Post War NOS parts are available and would be my choice for building shooters

Your are right Orlando, the 1941 requires a Type 1 Flush nut, but the 1944 take a Type III with a square bar I just looked it up). I have been focusing on the trigger assembly mainly and other internal parts. I have no information on sight parts. I also fear the OP rod will also be an issue.
I am intrigued by your offer for Post War NOS parts - can you e-mail me a listing? This may be ideal for a Mini-G.

Yah, you can use stainless on a Mini-G. You can media blast them to soften the shine. I have no finish process for them.

I wouldn't know, I haven't used the 1/12 twist barrel.

I like the 1/12 on my M14 clone. Shoots the 155's real well.

The SS WA 308 1/12 barrel came Monday from Jim T and it looks great. I will call Tim next week with what I want on a Mini G build. I will post pictures when I get it back. I have been looking at this rifle for a long time!

I believe the 1:12 is good up to 168 grain bullets. If you want to shoot heavy bullets at 2/3 mile+ 1:10 will be more accurate, but who is going to shoot a 180 grain bullet out of a Mini-G at 1000+ yards?

I bought a wilson 1-12 .308 in the white, that will end up in Jerome for a mini-g build for my boy... We'll be shooting 150gr FMJ surplus mainly.

Are you going to leave the barrel finish as is or blast it to dull it a tad? The barrel does looks nice and......will certainly look different if nothing else......won't rust either.

Hi Randy,

Mine's not stainless, just in the white. Shuff will parkerize it after he's done cutting and machining it. So no it won't be as snazzy looking as your stainless. :)

I have a Kreiger Heavy SS Barrel with a 1:11 twist in '06 on one of my Garands. The folks at Krieger claim that because of the nature of the stainless steel they use that it's only safe in a heavy contour. They won't do SS in a G.I. contour for that reason. A .308 or 7.62x51 has similar chamber pressure to an '06 so I'd assume they'd not do a .308 SS with a G.I contour either. Didn't have the heart to ask about a .338 Win mag :D

Now it could be the type of steel Krieger uses, or just their tendency to be over cautious (They also warned about firing the SS barrel in very cold weather - when pressed they said a barrel temp of 0 Fahrenheit or warmer should be fine & couldn't point to any examples of a barrel shattering due to cold alone).

I generally like SS (hence asking Krieger all those damn questions & trying to get them to do a SS with a G.I. contour) & it would be very cool to hear the details on these SS barrels that Mr. Thompson has for sale. (what kind of steel, track record, longevity, etc)
