I was offered a Winchester M1, in the DCM shipping box with the papers for $900. It has a new SA51 barrel on it, DAS marked stock, tube still in barrel, seemingly unfired since receipt in the early 80's. Do you think this is a fair price for this rifle?

You cant lose buying that one. If the barrel is new as said , it may be a unfired rebuild .

I would buy it , any WRA can cost you 900. in field condition. The barrel barrel being new may be a arsenal rebuild that his been unfired.

You're getting ripped off. Call Punchtheclown and see if he can get it for less.

Thanks to Punch for talking me out of this one. It was in like new condition but with a new SA 51 barrel. Can you believe that? An SA barrel on a Winchester?

Not many. percentage wise WRA's still have WRA barrels. Considering they are only WWII equipped.
It's a premium to get a good WRA barrel. As you see most were re-barreled SA.
Today you look for good heal stamps, WRA was known for light stampings.
I'd buy it for that price, IF it has a good heal stamp. You will spend some good coin bringing it back to original factory.
My 2 pennies worth.
